Why a lion
The picture that wouldn't leave me was a lion.
When I prayed about what to do for my 30th, the picture that wouldn't leave me was Aslan — the lion from Narnia. There's a moment where he gives himself up, and the crowd jeers and tears at him, and something in you recoils. Not at the violence — at the wrongness of innocence being treated that way. It's the same thing we feel, and too often forget, about the cross.
A dormitory is a wall between her and the worst the world has to offer — and a door into a classroom.
Half a world away there are girls this close to losing that same innocence. Where this school sits, a girl with no safe place to stay is a girl within reach of the worst the world has to offer. A dormitory is a wall between her and that — and a door into a classroom. That's the whole idea: protect the innocent, and give them a way out for good.
